Finding meaning and purpose
In the midst of this pandemic, you may have found a lot of time for self-reflection. In this time, have you found yourself thinking about how you want to live your life and what is personally meaningful to you? It’s a great question to be asking, but it can be a difficult one to find the answer to. If you’re feeling a bit stuck and not sure where to start, here are my tips below:
Imagine you are now 90 years old and are thinking back on your life. What things are you most proud of? What are your greatest accomplishments? How have you contributed to the world?
This sounds kind of gloomy, but it can be really powerful to think about how you want to be remembered when you one day pass away. What kind of things would you like people to say about you? Tap into the wisdom from your future self. What kind of advice would your future self give you right now?
If had infinite time and money, what would you choose to do? What things would you pursue if you just had more time? What kind of things do you love doing just because they’re fun? Are there ways that you can share these things in a way that benefits others? Maybe you love baking – you could sell your lovely baked goods for others to enjoy or create a recipe hub.
Explore and play. Have fun with trying different ideas and see which one you feel most strongly about. Dream big with this one – what would you try if you knew you could not fail? It’s ok for this to feel a little scary, it should – your dreams will challenge to go beyond your comfort zone.
What makes you feel super excited, even when you are tired? Decide on something that energises you.
Working towards your dreams can be hard and it may not always be an easy path, so think about something that you are willing to give blood, sweat and tears for. Decide you on something that you really, really want to do – that way your motivation remains strong enough for you to continue even when the road ahead may be a bit bumpy.
Good luck with creating your purpose and finding meaning. It can be challenging, but so worthwhile! If you need some help, feel free to reach out for some coaching.
